Tome Travelers

11

As the Tome Travelers, hosts John and Roxy go on a journey through roleplaying games of the past, present, and future. Sure, you know the big names in RPGs, but this is the show where we take a look at those settings and systems that you may not have heard of, and maybe even some that are out of print. Join us every other week as we travel through the tomes!

    Great show
Only reason I’m not doing 5 stars is it took 31 minutes of 54 in the episode I listened to, to get to the RPG

I love hearing about the RPG Deep Cuts.
Love this show. There are a ton of RPG podcasts out there and that said it’s so refreshing to find one that doesn’t just focus on the hits. I love that it’s a deeper dive into the realm of RPGs, with a little slice of what was going on in the world at the time of their release.

    Almost 5-Stars!
I very much wanted to give you 5 stars, because I very much want this podcast to exist. But just a few too many... let's call them "organizational errors", forced me to drop a star. But before I get into all that, great first episode, decent coverage of the topic (Babylon 5 RPG), keep up the hard work and I know this will soon be a 5-star podcast! Improvement: The content you presented was more-or-less fine. You talked a lot about the d20 license, a lot about the TV show, a lot about other RPGs that were big at the time, a little about other RPGs that were maybe influenced by or share fans of the Babylon 5 RPG, and a little about the the RPG itself. I might have liked to see the proportions of those topics changed, to focus on the RPG and what made it interesting (both to players and to the industry), but that's a relatively minor criticism compared with how the content was organized. If you agree that the topics I listed were the topics of the episode, then you must also agree that they were jumbled all together. That made it quite hard to follow along. Instead, I would have rather taken those topics in phases, like an outline. "Here's the game, when it was published, by whom, who wrote it, and so on." Each of those can then stand as a jumping off point to a new discussion. "The game plays like this or it's a game for these players, this game was published as a reaciton to X or to promote Y, this publisher was known for Z, the writer also worked on the TV show, which relates back to the game in this way." I know this seems... quibbling, but by organizing the conversation in this way you achieve so much to help the listener engage with the content. The structure not only informs the discussion but provides natural "ins" and "refocus" points that help the listener and the hosts, as well as giving the content a sense of depth, rather than a conversational skimming of the topic. As an aside, if you ever want clarification on the d20 license, the OGL, and all that jazz and what it means, hit me up. Also do the Alternity RPG. KThanksbye.

    Good Start
Not a bad start for a new podcast for RPG players. There’s tons of actual plays out there and general chatter for D&D gaming. This is a pretty good way to learn about other games outside of what my friends usually toss around. Can’t wait for more content.
