Capybara fan 101I have to say, my friendsThis pod is a precious thing. Neil's a great (and funny) presenter, interviewer (with the best guests [like Caleb Quaye!]), and he brings musical insight often accompanied by illuminating audio clips. So turn on the smartphone and shut out the lights: Neil Barrett is podding tonight!

Judge TimbersA Treasure Trove for Elton FansWhen I was 13 years old, my older brother took me on the train from Long Island to New York City to see Elton and Ray Cooper at the Palladium. The year was 1979 and my life was forever changed. The musical magic I experienced that night is somehow captured by this brilliant podcast. I cannot completely explain the reasons, but my love and appreciation for Elton’s enormous catalog has grown with each episode. And then, when I saw an entire episode was devoted to Ego (which he played all those years ago), I knew this podcast would never disappoint. Thank you so much for giving us this Elton John treasure trove.

elton1!The best Elton John podcast availableThis podcast does an excellent job breaking down the individual elements of songs, thus giving a fresh look to songs I thought I knew so well. His interviews are extraordinarily well informed and insightful. A true gift for any Elton fan.

Amethyst HazeIt’s Fantastic! What an amazing podcast! Neil is a personable, enthusiastic historian of All Things Elton. This podcast is clearly a labor of love by a person who is a good student of music in general and Elton in particular. It is just fascinating the topics he comes up with, and how well he conveys his knowledge. I love the “inside out” songs—being able to hear deeper levels of the music is captivating. I’ve had my jaw in the floor more than once. And Neil’s voice is just lovely. Very creative. Thanks Neil!

GAKnoxInformative!Neil’s EJ podcast is one of my favorite listens, always engaging, always full of juicy tidbits and keen insights into Elton’s musical career. This new episode focusing on the origin of the song PASSENGERS is probably the most informative of all because I knew nothing about this tune. I was always fond of this song primarily because it was so un-Elton sounding and showed that he was willing and able to reach out creatively beyond his comfort zone. I remember playing PASSENGERS for non-Elton fans and by and large they were happily surprised that it was him. Now I will have to go to YouTube and seek out the video which I have never seen. I do wish we could learn more about the gestation of this song and indeed, other songs directly from Elton and company. It’s the sort of thing that should be part of his upcoming autobiography, but I am pretty sure that tome will focus on more personal and career highlights. I am doubtful we will get any musical nuggets. Our EJ gold will have to come from the tireless and inspired mining efforts of Neil here on the podcast.

Patrick 93010Some of the best EJ history you will find...I have been a fan of Elton and Bernie's since my high school days of 1972-1975. If you are also a fan, or even mildly curious about the history of these Tin Pan Alley twins, then this is the podcast for you! If you are expecting tabloid glitz about the rockstar Elton John, well, you are in for a surprise! Neil immediately delves not only into Elton's history, but that of the musicians who played on his earliest recordings and live sets as well as those who inspired him in his formative years. And the train keeps on a'rollin' from there... you will learn about the struggles, the failures and the triumphs of this entourage of gifted musicians, producers and technicians as they ride this rocketship into the stratosphere of pop music, all while re-acquainting us with the very roots (or, in my opinion, the "best part") of Elton's remarkable journey... great stuff, and Neil Barrett gives it a twist of his own with his ever-humble expertise. Well done!

Bogue Herb LivesGood and getting betterI thought your latest ppdcast "Ego at 40" was your best yet. I love Elton and like your points of view. Especially good are your hard to find song clips. Mix in a guest now and then (or even a co-host like your inspiration "I've got a Beatles podcast") and you get five stars from me. A more regular release schedule would be fantastic as well. Say every two weeks? I know it's difficult. Stay with it! Great content. From Los Angeles, CA.
