Hydration and recovery with Furvor - GDIY
Hey Nick, I really enjoyed your interview with Kevin and discussion about proper hydration including the supplement like Furvor that includes the nutrients like electrolytes and protein to maintain stamina for hard working bird dogs. This might be the answer for those reluctant to feed their dogs before a hunt. It was also refreshing to hear from another Brittany owner plus a native Marylander like myself! Keep them coming! Paul H. from Pennsylvania

    Best Upland Podcast - Period!
Nick does an amazing job at interviewing his guests. At the end of the day, Nick’s passion for upland hunting and dog work, in particular, sets this podcast apart. His focus and desire to be welcoming and inviting for all makes this podcast a must-listen whenever it drops. If you’re at all interested in upland hunting and versatile dogs, give it a listen and thank me later!

Really enjoying listening to the episodes. I grew up through the 60’s and 70’s enjoying the hunting and training with my family. They primarily had gsp. I now reside in Alabama and have multiple breeds. I’m excited for the future of the sport and enjoy your venue of other trainers plus their future goals. Thank You!

Best hunting dog training podcast out there
Practical, open minded, and ravenously curious, Nick Adair works hard to provide DIY hunting dog trainers with meaningful information from a variety of perspectives. Listen and Re listen, marinate on the why, determine where you should learn more to get more of your dog’s potential. Or enjoy a profile episode and live and dream vicariously. It’s all here in GDIY.

Share this podcast with all your gun dog owners
Whether you’re a seasoned gun dog owner or a first timer this is the podcast for you. Nick does a great job setting up topics which cover the gamut of what we as gun dog people are curious about, having trouble with or are planning to train on. Nick supplements these topics with experts and experience. As mentioned in the title, I recommend you spread the word about this podcast to your friends and let them benefit from it like the rest of us.

    What I needed
Man I wish I knew about this podcast when I first picked up my bird dog. I had an idea about what a bird dog needs to master but no roadmap on how to get there. Unfortunately I started to wing it and made some of the mistakes talked about in the early episodes. Thankfully my Brittany is resilient and worked through my mistakes as a handler. I have started from episode 1 and used it to shape my dog going forward. I really enjoy the navdha episodes as well. They have helped me get through the intimidation of joining my local chapter. Can’t wait to chase pheasants with my dog in Iowa this coming season and see how our training has paid off. Keep up the good work guys. This content is golden for the bird dog community.

    Whoa series
One of my go to podcasts. Really enjoy the fact that you let the guests speak about their expertise rather than talking over them like some other podcasts. Keep up the great content

    Pretty great all around
Nick is a good interviewer who brings out the beat in his guests. Audio quality is consistently excellent which makes it easy to listen to in car. Really interesting stuff for a retriever owner which know little about upland work. Also fun to have folks on with expertise in other areas of the dog world. Its nice that these guys make the connection between dog disciplines rather than trying to split us into our separate corners.

    Great podcast!
Bird dog green horn. I was looking into getting a dog when I found this podcast. I have been listing from the beginning. I just put my deposit on a Lab. Looking forward to picking out my pup and getting her. Can’t wait to put in some hard work diying my dog. You have given my the confidence to just get in there and if I make mistakes it’s ok. Defiantly the best gun dog podcast. Thanks everyone!

GDIY has fantastic insights from all perspectives
I’ve been wearing out this podcast since I discovered it a year and a half ago. Now on my second pup, I’ve been going back to re-listen to all the old ones involving a new pup, hoping to correct the mistakes I made on my 6 year old GWP so that they don’t transfer over in training my new Llewellin pup
  • SScottM
    Fantastic podcast
One of the coolest things about GDIY is the range of guests and topics discussed. Nick brings on folks that discuss different methods that have worked for them and their dogs, which is definitely helpful in training my own pup. The upland slam and force fetch series have been among my favorite episodes. My bucket list and wishlist trips seem to grow weekly. Keep up the great work!

New subscriber and patreon supporter here and loving every bit of it! Just got my first GSP a month ago and found your podcast a couple weeks prior. I’ve mainly concentrated on the training episodes which are on loop. I really look forward to getting to the rest of the topics and guest interviews. Keep up with the great and helpful tips!

GDIY- AKA the “Google” of hunting dog training
I have been listening since the beginning which coincided with getting my first bird dog. Three years later I am still listening because you bring me the content that I would otherwise not find myself. You all do a great job of balancing a wide range of relevant content that is entertaining, informational, and timely.
  • HuntingPudelpointer
    North American Pudelpointer Society Episode
First off thanks for spotlighting my favorite dog, the Pudelpointer. Secondly I’m glad that Alycia was able to join you as a guest and representative of the Pudelpointer breed and member of NAPS. She and others are 100% committed to making sure the Pudelpointer is on the right path as a breed going forward, in the field, in the home and from a health standpoint. She was able to convey that throughout the podcast. Breed clubs seem to get a bad rap from some dog folks out there so I appreciate GDIY going into some of the why and how behind the North American Pudelpointer Society. I hope others came away more informed and with a greater appreciation for those volunteers working behind the scenes to ensure these versatile dogs we enjoy continue to be held to a higher standard. I always look forward to all of your episodes. Keep up the good work and for all those listening out there, Let your dogs Hunt!!!

    Most helpful podcast out there
There are few resources out there as helpful and enjoyable to listen to as GDIY. Nick has fantastic guests, is knowledgeable and helpful himself, and often asks the guests the same follow up questions the listeners like myself have. Thanks for the quality content, and keep up the good work!

    Boosting confidence with training
GDIY has been an amazing resource to improve my own confidence in training and tackling a new puppy. There are so many things I’ve learned by listening to Nick and his guests. I’ve been able to realize many things that were my fault versus my dogs problem. I look forward to each episode and the knowledge within it. Keep up the great work!

Above average podcast for the below average trainer
I got my first gun dog (and dog in general) two years ago. I’ve been listening to this podcast for a year now and wish I would have started listening months before o picked up my pup. There is so much useful information on this podcast that can help the average DIY dog trainer out. Honestly, each week surprises me with the information that is out out. I especially liked this weeks podcast. I couldn’t agree more with the guest; people NA testing fully broke dogs is just silly. NA stands for natural ability, not trained ability. I brought my dog to her NA test completely blind. She saw one quail, the night before the test, that was it. Other than “here” and “sit”, she was clueless about hunt training and she still managed to get a high Prize 2 score. Another chapter member and I were talking and they stayed that their dog has probably seen a little over 250 birds and was force fetched already… How is that NA? Anyways, this latest episode really resonated with me and I look forward to hearing more episodes like it. Thanks again for keeping this podcast up for below average handlers like myself attempting to handle above average dogs!

    Dog Training Gold
This podcast is fantastic. I’ve been a hunter my whole life, but I’ve never owned a gun dog. This podcast has helped me to narrow down a couple breeds with the profile episodes. I now have a GSP puppy coming at the end of the year. This podcast is full of gems that I’m eager to try out on my own puppy. Thanks for all the great content.

    Cleaned up delivery IMMEDIATELY!
The discussion about perceived pressure was monumental. I taught my dog to sit and deliver to hand and he has done it well for months. I noticed my dog lately trying to avoid the delivery despite(or come to find out because of) my ‘good boy, good boy, here, hold, good, here etc…’ I thought I was positively reinforcing and didn’t want to over use the e-collar. After listening to that episode I went home and threw a retrieve. One simple ‘good’ when he picked up the bumper. When he turned and made eye contact I turned my body sideways and took a knee. He brought it straight back, excitedly bumped my arm with his nose and sat and held. Beautiful, not only did he deliver to hand, but he wanted to. This was the first retrieve of the afternoon and was a water retrieve, he usually always drops to shake or avoids on the first retrieve. I quit the session there and hope it wasn’t a fluke 🤣 Thank you thank you for the constant great content, you truly have impacted my training and overall relationship with my dog many times. Sorry for the lengthy review.

    Finally…English Field Cocker Content!
Please…continue to platform the EFC and different ways to hunt and train it. EFC solo and a particularly efficient form…the EFC + pointer combo = safe, controlled and very solid way to introduce new hunters to the upland game!! Flusher + pointer = Base and maneuver. A tactic as old as time Episode 145: Provides solid background on the EFC with emphasis on relationship between dog and handler as compared to same relationship with other breeds. Emphasizes place board as mission critical Emphasizes “here” as #1 command with “heal” as a close 2nd Favorite Quote / Arguably most important part of podcast = “The dog has to learn that until you give your eyes to me…no movement in your world ever happens.” Solid offering here!

Where the focus is on content
This podcast has been an amazing resource. Nick does a fantastic job of catering his content towards all types of listeners, professionals and amateurs. I especially enjoy how non-parcial he is towards all breeds and how he emphasizes the importance of just getting out there and spending time afield. Additionally, I love the bonus episodes and I think that’s what sets Nick’s podcast apart. He interviews all types of handlers without sugar coating content so that us listeners can learn and create realistic expectations for ourselves.

New dog owner and new to the podcast
I’m a new bird dog owner and deep diving into getting her and I exposed to training. I found your channel through a pigeon Facebook page and have been binge listening to this podcast since. Thank you for the great resource and wide range of guests! As a newbie this has been a huge help.

Nick and Harold's most excellent dog show
Guys, I listen you your show a lot. As a 1st time dog owner, I’m glad to have found your podcast. I waited a little over a year for our pup. Well worth it. In that time I listened to your podcast and it helped me picture what may happen for us. I continue to listen. Your choice of guests is excellent and I learn a heck of a lot. I must have listened to your Nutrition episode 3 times I think. My dog will not be a strictly hunting dog. It will also be a family member. Your show has been a valuable resource. Keep up the good work! Artin.

Lots of great information for those that want to train their own dogs.

    Excellence in Trained Retrieve
I had no experience with trained retrieve. I had never even seen it. This series was eye opening to what I could train my dog to do. I have a Wirehair Vizsla that loves to fetch. This program took her to the next level and I appreciate all of your guests. Super!

    Hands down the best!
I can’t say enough for this podcast. If your a diy guy/girl this podcast is definitely for you. I’ve listened to a lot of the episodes multiple times to refresh my memory on training techniques. If your just finding this do yourself a favor and go back to episode 1 and start from the beginning and don’t skip the profile episodes. There is a lot of good training info in those too. I’ve learned so much more listening to this podcast than watching YouTube videos. There are some good YouTube training series’s on YouTube but can you really trust a guy that shoots a pink gun?

    Dog Training Simplified
A great resource for any level of dog trainer. Great guests with a wealth of knowledge and a host that can bring it back to an amateurs level. I really enjoy the end segment that is a round table like discussion of key takeaways of the episode.

    Tremendous Resources in this Podcast!
As the President of a large NAVHDA chapter whose mission statement in part states…“dedicated to assisting members to train and test their dogs…” the GDIY podcast is a tremendous resource to steer our members to.

    GDIY New Puppy
I was listening to Bird Shot podcast I believe and they mentioned GDIY. I was a week away from getting my British lab pup. I started listening and now I tune in religiously. GDIY does a great job of covering every single topic known to dog training. Not only are they a great podcast to learn tips and tricks, but they’re responsive! I had a couple questions, so I shot them a dm on Instagram. They responded, and provided more information than I expected. I can tell GDIY actually cares about its followers and wants to help as much as they can. Also, you can check out their website and find certain topics very easily. Whether you have a 7 week old puppy, 3 year old NAVHDA invitational winner, or just a lazy old couch dog. You can learn a great amount of knowledge from this podcast, without feeling overwhelmed. They do a great job of dumbing everything down! Moral of the story, subscribe to GDIY and you will learn a great wealth of knowledge on whatever topic you’re looking for. I never wrote this much on my college essays, that’s how you know I have a great amount of respect for GDIY lol

    Really Enjoy Podcast Profiles
The podcast has really hit its stride by putting out good content. The moderator asks great questions of his guests which in turn provides good information to the listeners. I really like the podcast profiles of everyday gun dog owners telling their stories. Keep up the good work!!
