How to be a Minimalist

How To #93

The How to be a Minimalist podcast is all about exploring minimalism and the many areas of life it touches. I’ll be talking a lot more about how to live an experience-based life, emotional minimalism, and how to discover your minimalist WHYS than the most efficient, space-saving technique for folding your undies or how to create a minimalist-magazine-cover home. Don’t worry, though — there will be some of those types of things, too. But here, I’d like to dive in deeper than simply living with less.

    Lots of chit chat
With life’s every day, fast pace, looking for a podcast that gets right to the objective, is not this one. An episode with over half the time spent catching up with a spouse, not anything that actually supported the title of the podcast or episode.

    Lovely girl!
Katie is lovely and warm. Kinda fascinated by the RV living thing! I’ve enjoyed this podcast for concise, quick advice on decluttering. I am not however interested in back and forth wife husband banter about their daily life. Although they are both sweet people and respect each other, this new aspect is not for me. I tune in for a decluttering nugget and don’t want to feel like I’m sitting across the table talking about daily life that can be quite boring to the third wheel. Oh well, I did enjoy it while it lasted and I wish them the best on their journey. Good luck!

    I love this so much.
This is the only podcast I listen to regarding minimalism. Today’s episode was incredibly heartfelt and touching. I burst into tears when you described how you bring your husbands plate to him. I thought I was the only person who still did this! And the other things you do for one another! The mutual respect between the two of you reminded my so much of my husband and I and I just feel so grateful every day.

Feels like I’m listening to my friend!
I just love this podcast. I only recently discovered it, and I’m hooked. Katie is so fun, bubbly and easy going. She is also very relatable. I’m a mother to a toddler and always interested in self improvement. This podcast is easy to digest and is so mood boosting. Thank you Katie!

It’s just one of a thousand
it’s just another podcast about a how a person is negativing through their own journey not actual scientific facts/studies and helpful tips. It’s just nothing different. Mid her journey helps you excellent no judgement, it’s just not really structured or insightful past just talking to a friend.

    Inspiring
Seriously the most pleasant and friendly voice! I find this podcast very inspiring to work on my minimalism practice, but also to be at peace with myself. Minimalism is not about perfection. I love how Katie reminds us that minimalism is not one size fits all. I love that I’m challenged and I love the personal updates!

It helps me stay on top of minimalism practices and I love hearing how Katie implements minimalism in different aspects of her life. Thanks for taking the time to record this podcast! It’s relaxing to listen to and motivating. Thank you!

Helping me to change my life
I’m in the process of downsizing from a large home to a small condo after my children have grown and I am now living alone. It’s not an easy process but Katy has made it easier. I started at episode 1 and she has helped me realize that it really is more about the experiences and not about the stuff. I am looking forward to the next chapter of my life!

    A favorite minimalist podcast
I have been looking for a good podcast to listen to related to tidying/minimalism. I have finally landed on this one and love it. It’s something stress free you can turn on as you are cleaning or organizing. I’ve been going through listening to all of them from the start!

    Inspirational and Informative
I’ve recently started listening to this podcast (I’m 30 in so far) and have found each episode to be an invitation to join minimalism in a friendly, caring way. I love her humor and gentle way of sharing information. Each episode encourages me to put a sincere effort into this lifestyle—more so than any other book or article I’ve ever read. Thank you for putting these episodes out there...now back to binge listening!

    Makes Minimalism Feel Attainable
I’m still pretty early on in the episodes, but I’ve already started to feel more comfortable downsizing and checking things off the list towards a minimalist lifestyle. The conversation is so comfortable to listen to, I can just pop in my lil earbuds and go about my day listening to this in the background, kind of like a little guide in some ways. I also didn’t realize when I started listening, but we live in the same area! I’m just getting to the episode where you’re talking about the Beaverton or Hillsboro library and got excited about this podcast coming from where I am....(words...awkward...lol.) Thanks for such an easy listen with lots of great advice !

    Can’t Get Enough!
Katie is so down to earth and relatable! I find myself listening to one of her episodes every chance I get. I just recently came across her podcast and have already listened to 30+ episodes. Thank you for inspiring so many aspects of our lives!!

    Thank you!
I have been trying to move in to minimalism for a long time and have stop short. Thank you for all the tips and resources! I like that you do not talk just about the money saved but the feeling you have when having less stuff. I am not a big spender. The reason I have so much is because I can’t afford to buy it again or it’s free so I take it. I have only just started and I feel great!

More motivation to do what I want
This podcast makes me excited to go on my usual boring walks everyday. I’m actually walking so much more because I can’t stop listening! So inspirational with realistic tips. Can’t believe Hallmark didn’t take on that movie idea.

    Minimalist podcast for minimalist tips!
I love this podcast because it stays true to minimalist practices by keeping the content minimal. These are short abs to the point with great ideas and tips. Other minimalist podcasts are over an hour each which to me defeats the purpose. I look forward to these each week. They are nice quick reminders of how I can keep my minimalist practices going.

    Super helpful!
Katie’s content and sweet, calming delivery have been so great in motivating me to downsize my stuff.... sooooo much freakin stuff. I’ve been listening as I declutter my home office, which has been a catch-all for waaaay too long. Katie has helped the process go from total 🤬UGH!!! to, “Hmmm. What else can I donate/recycle/pitch?” Loving it! Thanks, Katie! 💕

    Love her
She is so sweet, informative and inspirational. So many minimalist podcasts have overpowering energies that make it sometimes difficult to listen to and absorb the information. This podcast is delivered in such a kind and calm manner and is easily relatable. Thank you for sharing your light! ✨

    Chill vibes
I’ve listened to about 7 episodes so far, great podcasts and info. I enjoy a Intro and banter talk, it gives you that friend casual vibe. But it is about 10-15 minutes in then the talk of the topic kicks off. If you like the casual few minutes of friend banter talk in the start, this is a great podcast. I do enjoy Katie’s YouTube a whole lot, will be continuing to watch more of her from there.

    Refreshing and empowering
Just listened to the episode on homeschooling, and I’m so grateful that Katie decided to weigh in. She brings a kind, solid perspective. I love that she’s willing to share her opinions while respecting the opinions of others. As for me, I agree with her 100%! I agree with the hybrid model. Also, as a partial minimalist myself, I would say that I love Katie’s perspective on learning and having experiences over things. She is awesome.

Very relatable & actionable advice & calming host
I love Katie’s podcast! Her thoughts and tips on minimalism are very attainable and actionable. Her personality is that of an approachable friend. She has the most soothing, calming voice that I love listening to. It’s literally part of my self-care to listen to her and implement her suggestions. She is very relatable and her advice is never preachy or holier than thou. I’ve also loved connecting with her on Instagram. She is just a sweet person!

Wonderful insights and advice for the aspiring minimalist!
First off, I’m not really a current minimalist. But like so many people, I *aspire* to be. By listening to this podcast I’m learning that there are lots of ways to minimize and declutter the “stuff,” even if it is emotional decluttering. Minimalism, in any form, is very freeing. Everyone’s levels of minimalism is different, which is what Katie discusses, and I LOVE that! Her ideas make you feel like minimalism, in some form or another, is attainable, and she does it by talking about her own life and what has worked and what has not. Her approach is caring, friendly, non-judgmental and very relatable. I highly recommend this podcast!

Simple things that I can DO
I love her take on how to simply do something today, just something little, that can make a big difference. It bleeds into not only getting rid of things, but mental and emotional hurdles as well. And this may seem silly, but she has a really calming kind voice to listen to, as she urges and encourages to choose what you want out of life instead of things.

    Great advice and inspiration!
I absolutely love Katie’s advice on minimalism! Her book on the topic is wonderful, too. I feel so inspired to keep focused on my goal of a simple, fulfilling life. I specifically appreciate her emphasis on practicing your own kind of minimalism. It doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s, and that’s such a freeing thing!
