    Excellent
I’ve listened into the 1800s, this is a very good detailed introduction to the history of Canada from the early exploration of the French, eventually to modern times As an American-he has pro Canadian outlook, naturally, but 99.8% a straight forward history and very well done there’s a 2 star out there- the reviewer is hung up on 3 paragraphs in the introduction episode- ignore it and think for yourself

A major undertaking that is well done but very detailed
This is clearly a labor of love by a professional historian who is also an excellent presenter. I have enjoyed the many episodes I have listened to but I sometimes get lost in the details and asides. Occasional episodes laying out larger themes in Canadian history would really facilitate understanding the material.

    5/5 - Great Podcast
Great podcast, well researched, and great storytelling. Highly recommended!

    Couldn’t get past the bias
I get that all podcasts are presented from a perspective. But I turned this off after the introductory episode. There was just too much kissing of Trudeau’s feet and waxing eloquent about how wonderful Liberals are, compared to those vile xenophobes (i.e., everyone else).

    Best History Podcast
There are many different history podcasts and styles. This one suits me just right. He is amd amazing storyteller and the weaving of narratives is impressive. I have learned so much and I especially learned a lot about the Buffalo, NY the area I grew up in. I always thought there was more to the story of North America history. American centered podcasts don’t seem to get into the nitty gritty of history and more seem to follow the big stuff only. Thank you for your podcast. I never knew I wanted it so badly. Should have known a Canadian would provide a better history for New York State and the early Pacific Northwest than an American. Ya’ll are a lot better at self reflection than we Americans. Excited for the future eps, thank you!

I’d Give Him 10 Stars If Apple Would Let Me
A spectacular history of Northern North America. A major undertaking that walks a fine line between academic and popular historical inquiry. As an American that lives within miles of the border, I wish I’d found it sooner!

    Well Worth The Listen
This is my favorite history podcast, possibly rivaled only by his other podcast on Stuart England. It’s a deep dive into the history of Canada presented in digestible and well-paced episodes that craft a compelling story and present a lively, human depiction of the events described.
